I hope Rishi Sunak really does wait until autumn before calling the general election, as he hinted yesterday, because I don't want it crowding out On London's coverage of the mayoral contest, thank you very much.

Sadiq Khan might feel differently: as the Labour candidate, he would probably benefit from the larger turnout that would occur due to the mayoral and general votes taking place on the same day, especially given the deep unpopularity of the Conservatives in the capital.

Whatever, there's one thing we can be sure of - the Tories and their media allies will keep doing all they can to portray London as everything bad that can happen when a Labour politician is in charge.
