On London Extra: Thamesmead hopes

On Tuesday, I visited Thamesmead where I was shown around the south-east London area's bricolage of post-war housing, its canals and lakes, and the spot next to a car park where Transport for London would very much like to put a new Docklands Light Railway station at the end of an extension of the DLR line from the north side of the Thames.
On Thursday, Deputy Mayor for Transport Seb Dance went to Thamesmead too - not to copy me, but because he and Sir Sadiq Khan are, of course, on the same page as TfL about the DLR extension plan and want Rachel Reeves to know how absolutely shovel-ready and raring to go all interesting parties are.
These crucially include housing association Peabody, which is already engaged in a long-term upgrade and regeneration of existing Thamesmead housing and could build thousands more homes if funding for a station was provided by Reeves in her spending review, to be unveiled next week.
