On London Latest: City Hall's Trump Tories
Reporting on how some Conservatives in the capital remain beguiled by the crook in the White House. Plus by-election analysis and Barnet FC's homecoming dream
I'm writing this with one eye on proceedings at City Hall, where the London Assembly is questioning Sir Sadiq Khan about his budget.
As well as listening to arguments about taxing and spending I will be watching for further evidence of Conservative Assembly members (AMs) enthusing about Donald Trump, the well-known criminal recently elected President of the United States.
That’s the same Donald Trump who, on returning to the White House, wasted no time releasing hundreds of fellow criminals who had been locked up for seeking to violently overthrow the outcome of a previous election Trump had lost.
I find it worrying that some Conservative AMs, normally so keen to be seen as “tough” on crime, have been delighted by the efforts of Trump so far and, in addition, seem eager to attack critics of their supposed deadly rivals, Reform UK, whose leader, Nigel Farage, is this country’s biggest Trump sycophant.
