I wrote yesterday about how misinformed and counterproductive is the endless, quarrelsome commentary from other parts of England, and Scotland too, about the preferential treatment London supposedly receives from national governments at the expense of everywhere else.
I was prompted to do this having encountered on Bluesky some extraordinary examples of people seriously convinced that we flash Londoners have been living the high life at the expense of honest, decent, authentic northern folk and siphoning off Braveheart’s oil, when in reality London’s economy has long kept the wolf from the rest of the UK’s door.
