Totally agree. Having a mayor of London that can legitimately claim to represent the majority of voters, through either first or second preferences, makes a big difference to how voters feel about the mandate they have and, indeed, their own voice

I completely agree with the arguments made that the SV system added to the democratic mandate of the Mayor and that the Tory changes were made purely for their own electoral benefit. Labour has to be careful about changing it back though as it would look like it was similarly being done for their own electoral benefit. (It would, of course, be to their electoral benefit) Consequently, it might be best done as part of a wider set of reforms of political institutions and processes - our general election voting system, the House of Lords etc.
