It may be just as well that Housing Associations are not building so many homes, given that so few that they build are genuinely affordable. Their building programmes just provide cover for the government, the Mayor et al, by bumping up the headline numbers of "affordable" homes, but in the process sucking up more subsidy than they need and doing little or nothing to tackle the need for affordable homes or the unaffordability of homes to buy. Hopefully Councils will step in and build some proper social rent, which will have much more benefit in providing the low cost homes London needs and tackling high house prices and rents.
